When beginning the commission task from our client, I had to begin with thinking up some initial ideas based on what was being asked in the brief. To do this, I had to research into different areas, including looking at what the target audience would want to see. I also researched into the different forms of advertising I would be creating, so that I could understand what conventional form my products should follow. I then conducted research into other colleges and what products they had to offer and how I can improve on them for mine, but also keep a similar technique.
From this research, I began to form ideas of what I wanted my products to look like, including coming up with the idea of the poster being of resemblance of movie poster, and knowing which website to use to create mine.
I finally decided on my final ideas after drafting lots of different ideas and having meetings with my client to discuss what works and what doesn’t. My client agreed with my ideas and he also added his own ideas of what could be improved. From this, I then began creating my products, after a well-thought out process of what they should look like.
The research therefore, was a huge help at helping me with coming up with my own ideas and knowing what was conventional of promotional items and what wasn’t. Also, understanding my audience was a big factor of help, as it meant that my products would be directly aimed at them and fulfils the purpose of the brief; to attract people to the sixth form.
The overall process of production, was mostly a success, however I would say that the products didn’t turn out exactly the way I wanted. I think the whole production of the poster went exactly how I wanted and it turned out fairly well. The website was a fairly simple thing to construct, however due to the lack of variation on the free websites, it didn’t turn out exactly how I wanted as it couldn’t be very original. The advert was a very difficult one to produce, as it was difficult to advertise the sixth form in the short amount of time that a normal advert is. The quality of the advert isn’t very good either, and the images can seem a little unclear at times. However, the audience feedback has been successful and they appear to like the advert and find it vey appealing about the sixth form.
Overall, I think the products have turned out fairly well and do fit the brief given by my client. Audience feedback also suggests that the products are good, with just a few improvements that could have been made. I am happy with the products and how they portray the sixth form.
I have also learned some more technical skills during this task. I learnt to use Livetype on the macs, in order to produce moving titles beyond the level of imovie and I feel I could now use Livetype for future projects. I have also improved on making websites using different online webpage’s.
If I was to undertake a project like this in the future, I would have a better understanding of how to go about making the projects, what sites to use and applying the skills I’ve already learnt. I would also manage the filming properly as I wasn’t able to film some of the shots planned due to clashes in schedules between the people taking part, however I think the products turned out well and I have a better insight into how a commission project works.
